Deep Retrofits for Homeowners
On July 7, 2022, Retrofit Canada’s Peter Amerongen and two homeowners presented an overview of deep retrofits. Attendees will learn about:

- Advice for purchasing a home suitable for a deep retrofit.
- Why Retrofit Canada is starting a deep retrofit movement.
About Peter:
Peter Amerongen has been designing and building energy-efficient houses in and around Edmonton, Alberta, since the 1970s. As a partner in Habitat Studio, he designed and built a dozen net-zero energy houses, Canada’s first net-zero energy affordable multi-family project, and Canada’s first net-zero energy church.
Peter leads the panelized deep energy retrofit of the 59-unit 1970s Sundance Housing Co-op. This is one of the first applications of the Dutch Energiesprong system in North America. Butterwick Projects is also piloting panelized deep energy retrofits to 3 Edmonton single-family houses.
As a consultant with ReNu Engineering Ltd., he helps designers and builders develop practical, affordable, low carbon building solutions.
Peter is a founder of Retrofit Canada and an original member of Edmonton City Council’s Energy Transition and Climate Resiliency Advisory Committees and the CHBA Net Zero Council Management Committee. He is also a Certified Passive House Consultant (PHIUS and PHI).
