That's the title of this article penned by Laura Severs of the Edmonton Journal that tells the Sandercock-Harmsma family story about their journey to net-zero.
Given that we often describe a panelized deep retrofit as being like a wrapping a building in a warm sweater, Retrofit Canada thinks this is the perfect opener to talk about this paenelized deep retrofit, the first of its kind in North America.
Severs' story included this oft-repeated refrain of Peter Amergonen, a member of our board and a partner at Butterwick Projects, the builder leading the retrofit:
“About a third of greenhouse gases come from the buildings we use right now,” added Amerongen. “Most of these will still be in use in 2050. To deal with the climate emergency, we need to make our homes net zero long before that. Panelized deep retrofits are a great solution.”
