Retrofit Canada is looking for a governance, financial, or policy/regulatory professional to join our volunteer Board of Directors. This role offers a chance to help guide a national deep-retrofit non-profit share solutions, eliminate barriers, and accelerate deep retrofits in Canada. Familiarity with deep retrofits or energy efficiency is an asset, but not required.
About Retrofit Canada
Real Projects. Real Data. Real Solutions.
Retrofit Canada is a national non-profit advancing deep retrofits across Canada. We document the knowledge and solutions needed to make deep retrofits practical: what gets built, how it performs, and how to do it better. We link policy, planning, and research with construction realities. We do this so more Canadians can retrofit their homes and buildings with cost-effective upgrades that cut emissions and improve comfort, durability, and efficiency.
About the Role
Retrofit Canada is seeking a new Board Director to join a national team of leaders in the deep retrofit movement. Directors guide strategy, ensure strong governance and financial oversight, and strengthen the organization’s capacity to deliver its mission.
We’re especially interested in candidates with experience or strong interest in governance, finance, policy, or fund development. These skills will complement our board’s existing strengths in deep retrofits, building science, and research.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to strategic planning and organizational decision-making.
- Provide governance oversight and support financial management, including budget and audit review.
- Offer insight and networks relevant to policy, regulation, or program design.
- Help diversify funding sources and engage new non-government partners.
- Participate in monthly virtual board meetings and committee activities as needed.
- Serve as an ambassador for Retrofit Canada across government, industry, and the retrofit community.
Ideal Candidate
We welcome applicants from a range of professional backgrounds who bring:
- Experience in governance, finance, fundraising, or public policy related to energy, buildings, or climate.
- Knowledge of non-profit operations or prior board service.
- Strong networks with potential funders and partners.
- Commitment to equity, collaboration, and practical climate action.
- Familiarity with deep retrofits or energy efficiency is an asset, but not required.
Commitment
This is a volunteer role with a two-year renewable term. There are approximately nine 60-minute virtual board meetings annually, with occasional ad hoc committee or project meetings.
