By increasing the home’s airtightness, adding more insulation to the exterior walls and attic, and upgrading windows and mechanical system, the home’s estimated energy use dropped almost 50 per cent. The project even added an extension to the rear master bedroom.

The retrofit included the following improvements:

  • Rear Master Bedroom Extension
  • New Innotech Windows
  • Electrical Service Upgrade 200A
  • 6” Roxul with Corrugated Steel Siding on the exterior
  • Sprayfoam attic to make it airtight and install R60 insulation
  • 2.5 tonne Daikin heatpump
  • 50 Gallon AO Smith Heatpump hotwater
  • Drain Water Heat Recovery
  • Disconnect Gas
  • Reduce ACH50 from 3.50 to 0.93
  • Space Heating Demand Reduced from 14.65kW to 6.44kW
  • Insulate Basement 18” Below Grade (R20 added)
  • Energy Recovery Ventilator

The home is now net-zero ready.
